New Year’s resolutions are like TikTok trends. People forget about them after a couple of weeks.
We write down things like “Bella Hadid abs” and “stop being stressed” (like we’re born with a Stop-Stress-Now button). Don’t get us wrong, we will always advocate for self-love and becoming your higher self. Just ask the 20+ readers who join us for journaling and meditation at our monthly Gratitude in the Park event. But when resolutions come from a place of lack, and the destination becomes your focus, well, you just become your own hater. On a subconscious level, resolutions tend to make us feel like some part of us needs fixing, or that we need to obtain something we don’t have in order to be happy, loved, liked, etc. That’s because resolutions are external goals that are simply achieved or broken. Intentions on the other hand, are mindsets. They give us insight into the relationship with not only ourselves, but the value that Bella Hadid’s abs will bring into our lives. Read on to find out how we’re setting intentions instead of resolutions for 2023.
1. What Are You Excited About in 2023?
Is it your graduation after five long, but memorable years in college? Is the birthday party of your dreams finally happening? Is it the Beyonce Renaissance tour? (Because same.) Maybe it’s smaller things like rainy weather finally being replaced with sunny spring or the premiere of a movie you’ve been dying to see. Whatever it is, get excited about 2023! There’s joy in every part of your life.

2. Reflect On Lessons & Highlights of 2022
Regardless of what you think, you are constantly evolving. Whether it’s through your friendships, in your career, or through your physical and mental health, chances are you are in a different place than you were last year, let alone the last decade! Who and what have you outgrown? Who and what brings you joy that you want to take into 2023?

3. Write a Love Letter to YOU
Changing is overrated. You ARE the moment! Get comfortable, and write a love letter to yourself. It might start with the freckles you inherited from Mom, your insane guitar skills, or your ability to trust after heartbreak. Then think about what keeps you going every day and what’s going well in your life. Maybe it’s getting to cuddle with your furry best friend every day, your improved health, or having the career you’ve always wanted. Big or small, there is always at least one thing. How would your younger self or your last year’s self be proud of you today?

4. Pick a Theme For the Year or Every Month
Honoring a theme or an affirmation for the year is a great way to practice centering your energy and discern what truly aligns with your best self. Spent a lot of 2022 people-pleasing? An overall theme for 2023 could be “assertiveness” or “living for yourself.” Felt a lot of burnout this year? 2023 can focus on “balance” or “simplicity.” Choosing a theme for every month instead can allow you to practice finding joy in every area of your life. Maybe the holiday season was a little too hectic, so January can center on “rest” or “self-care.” February can be about love in all its forms: platonic, romantic, and familial. Remember to be kind to yourself as you adjust to new habits and experiences.

5. The Power of The Vision Board
Visualization is extremely powerful. It’s the first step in attracting what you want in a way that’s meant for you. So get specific. What does your best self dress and eat like? What kind of friends does your best self spend time with? How does your best self talk to others and yourself? Which social media accounts does your best self follow? Does your best self have a morning or night routine? Then be it, do it, and live it. Gather images that represent your answers and your highest self, then put them somewhere you can see them every day.
Don’t know where to start? Join our Vision Board Power Weekend on January 7th and 8th to start manifesting your 2023!

6. Just Book The Vacation Already
As cliche as it sounds, it is very true–life is short. Everybody’s time will come, but nobody knows when. Say it with us: rest is not a luxury, but a necessity. Carving some time out of your day, week, month, or year to simply have fun and recharge is your soul’s equivalent to eating greens and drinking water. Book that solo Italy trip and live out your Emily In Paris dreams already. Pick the dates to go on that cabin trip you and your besties have been planning forever. Explore your city with a week-long spring staycation. Re-energizing on vacation is an essential part of living and new memories for 2023!
