Where are you from?

I grew up in the Westlake Village/Thousand Oaks area, but I live in Santa Monica now.

Have you lived outside of LA? What brought you back?

I went to college at NYU, so I lived in New York for 4 years. I also spent 4 months in London. Both are amazing cities. I am so happy I experienced New York — it is such a unique and exhilarating city. Ultimately I decided the more laid-back and outdoor-oriented LA was for me.

What’s your favorite thing about LA?

This might sound like the obvious answer, but I love the warm weather and everything that comes with it… going to the beach, hiking, brunching outside all year round. When the sun is shining, it’s hard to be in a bad mood. I also love that LA is becoming the new place for artists to come. LA often gets criticized for being vapid and lacking in culture, but people who say that clearly don’t know much more about LA other than the stereotypes about Hollywood. There are so many creative and intellectual people, despite what so many people think.

What’s your least favorite thing about LA?

Another obvious answer, but the fact that everything is so spread out and that it takes a million years to get anywhere. Besides that, I would say the whole fame-obsessed culture. It really is only a small subset of the population, but that part of LA doesn’t interest me.

What about LA inspires you?

I am constantly inspired to live a healthy life, which is the exact opposite of what it’s like to live in New York. It’s more glamorous in New York to have the “woe is me” attitude, but in LA, everyone wants to spend time outside, in nature, doing yoga and eating their farmer’s market fruit and vegetables. For someone who works in that industry, I’m all about it.

Where is your favorite place to go in LA?

I love going to the beach. I luckily live within walking distance, so I like to spend as much time there as possible. I also love going to Abbot Kinney, hiking in Kenter Canyon, or going to the Melrose flea market.

What haven’t you done in LA that you want to try?

Hiking the Hollywood sign! It’s pretty crazy that I haven’t done it yet when I was born and raised in Los Angeles, so it’s probably something I should do as soon as possible.

Do you have any advice for people new to LA?

Stop judging it! I have so many friends come and visit LA and feel so surprised at how much they like it. Not everyone is walking around with their Chanel bags and their Botox trying to buy a $15 green juice. There are all types of awesome people that are inspiring and eclectic, so stop going to all the cliche places and try something new.
