Downtown LA is literally a city within a city. Known for its bustling streets, high rises, lively arts, the fashion district, maybe even the traffic, but here’s what we love most about DTLA – its restaurants. There is one block in particular – where 7th St. meets S. Santa Fe Ave – that is the absolute tastiest and has 4 amazing spots within walking distance of each other. From elevated Mexican food to carefully crafted Italian and fresh sushi, this block is where DTLA’s best restaurants live. This block offers valet parking, but you can easily score a metered spot on the street too. Keep scrolling to read all about the most famous foodie block in LA…here are the best restaurants in DTLA.
1. Damian
Location: 2132 E 7th Pl, Los Angeles, CA 90021
Damian is the spot to go for authentic Mexican food and a chic modern atmosphere. Here, Mexican culture and plates made with locally sourced ingredients steal the spotlight. Try Damian’s take on the Tlayuda – a traditional Oaxacan dish made with a thin tortilla and topped with fresh seasonal veggies. If you visit during different times of the year, you’ll get a new version of the same dish depending upon the season! You can’t forget to wash it down with one of their delish margaritas (we love the Spicy Mezcal with Pierre Ferrand Dry Curacao). And don’t miss out on Happy Hour all day on Mondays, and Wednesday and Thursday from 5:30 – 6:30 pm. Book your table here.

2. Bestia
Location: 2121 E 7th Pl, Los Angeles, CA 90021
Whoever says LA doesn’t have good pizza clearly hasn’t eaten at Bestia. Here you’ll get a taste of Italy while dining in an incredible converted warehouse. Their pizzas are baked in a brick oven, giving it a crispier crust, and distinct flavor. Other must-try dishes include the Ricotta Gnocchi, Grilled Branzino, and Creme Fraiche Panna Cotta for dessert. Be sure to check out Bestia’s huge selection of wine, beers, and other handcrafted cocktails. See the full menu and grab your reservation here. Buon appetito!
Pro-Tip: plan ahead and book your reservation early because this place gets crowded even on a Tuesday night. If you plan to walk-in, go right when they open because you’ll most likely be able to grab a stool at the bar where they offer the full menu.

3. Kodo
Location: 710 S Santa Fe Ave, Los Angeles, CA 90021
Feast on Modern Japanese foods in an oh-so-sexy atmosphere at Kodo. The restaurant prides itself on its dishes cooked on a Binchotan Charcoal grill, which according to Food and Wine, burns longer, hotter, and cleaner than other grills. Try one of Kodo’s seasonal sushi offerings, crispy rice, or impressive seafood selection. Dining with a vegan? Kodo has tofu dishes and a Vegan Nigiri Platter. While you’re there, check out their extensive Sake collection, and other cocktails, like a Lychee Martini or Yuzu Margarita. Yum! Get your table here.
4. Bread Lounge

We love coming here to catch up for breakfast, lunch, or a quick bite. Devour breakfast faves like Avocado Toast, Shakshuka, and Omelets. Lunchtime offers a variety of sandwiches, quiches, soups, and salads. And don’t forget the beverages! You’ll swoon over their Belgian Hot Chocolate. Or, if you’re in the mood for something lighter, we recommend their Arnold Palmer. Want to bring the goodness of Bread Lounge home? Their bread and pastries are available for takeout from the bakery.
