Cool is an understatement when it comes to the fashion brand Libertine. LA based designer and creative director – Johnson Hartig – has reinvented Libertine’s eclectic and kitschy fashion that has been on the radar of many prominent celebrities like Gwyneth Paltrow, Cher and even Queen Bey! So it’s no surprise that the RTW line came to the highly coveted New York Fashion Week event space, Spring Studios (the first time since the pandemic), to debut their 2024 Spring collection, and WOW, it was incredible. Our Editor-in-Chief Erika De La Cruz had a front row seat to the show and was floored with every bold and graphic print that makes a Libertine outfit a moment. Keep reading for an in-depth look into Libertine’s latest collection.
To match the vibe of a cool girl Libertine outfit, Erika threw on this fringed shiny leather jacket (so cool) from Proenza Schouler, over a velvet and see through Mew Mews gown. Guests were met with a pre reception where they served cocktails that featured On The Rocks mixes.
Guests also co-mingled with one another before the show and included designer Thom Browne, Sutton Stracke from The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills, designer Cynthia Rowley, podcast host Sofia Franklyn from “Sofia with an F”, fashion entrepreneur Sourabh Sharma, and R & B artist Babyface. After that it was showtime.
Every invitee was given the cutest mini souvenirs that included mini invitations that folded out into a mini poster of a Libertine look and fashionable stickers too. The lights went down, the music started and the models began strutting the latest in Libertine’s seasonal spring looks. Polka dots, stripes and geometric prints dominated the runway for both men and women. Colors were a mix of 70’s Americana sportswear and fresh Italian Riviera vibes.
Tweed, fringe and leather were mixed into suiting, dresses and knits. Artistic prints and whimsical florals also took over many looks. True to Libertine form, there were hearts on hearts on hearts in pops of red, white and hot pink and hand silkscreened collage pieces featuring drawings, photographs and texts creating an effect that came straight out of LACMA. Simplicity was also a highlight. We loved two chic suits that were featured in royal purple and coastal blue. Le Sport Sac also co-collaboarted with the brand and debuted stylish backpacks, fanny packs and totes.
The faves? It was a hard toss up between a navy blue men’s pinstripe suit, the over-sized sun hats, a polka dot high neck mini dress, or the many exquisite car coats. So no definite favorites, but according to Erika the Libertine show was “…festive and filled with garments that made me smile and made me wanting to start planning my next vacation.”
