So many runways, so many jaw dropping styles. We were so excited to see so many fresh and fun looks for Spring 2024 and there were sometimes no words to describe what we just saw. Ok, yes, we know it’s only the start of fall, but these styles from up and coming designers at New York Fashion week are having us want to wear these looks right now. Our Editor in Chief Erika De La Cruz made her way through fashion week in some pretty epic looks too. To kick things off, she wore a Francesco Paolo Salerno bubble dress, Marc Fisher platforms and completed the look with an Elie Saab mini bucket bag. HBCU Alumni presented by UPS
One of the first shows that kicked off New York Fashion Week was a show stopping scene of diversity in the fashion industry. UPS brought together three HBCU alumni to unveil their new collections on the runway. Lala Anthony was on deck to open up the show and introduce everyone to three fabulous designers that we know, for sure, will go far in the industry First up, The Brand Label, from two Virgina State Alumni, Shaq & Nola. Spring was totally in the air with this collection. Bright colors and splashes of purples, neon greens s and metallic jewel tones strutted down the runway. Silhouettes were all about drop waists, dramatic trains, full skirts and corsets. Embellishments ranged from metal rings, rosettes, feathers and pearls that were delicately placed on several of the fashions. If there is one take away from this collection….it was all about STATEMENT. Love!

Next up, a NC Central University Alum, Chelsea Grays. Her collection consisted of subtle fall colors and muted neutrals. There were olive greens and beiges on utility designed pieces. I think one way to sum up this collection is that if the world of Star Wars had a fashion show, this is the show that the galaxy far far away would want to come to. There were so many cozy coats on display along with structured jackets and cowl neck turtlenecks, vests, puffers, tailored trousers and uniquely shaped tops. This collection is ready to wear now, so don’t be surprised if you see us rocking these pieces on the streets of LA.

Lastly, a Howard University alum, Undra Celeste. Her collection was a dreamy edit of ethereal and lightweight looks that flowed down the runway. One of our favorites was an all white feathered and fringed dress. The patterns and structure of each outfit screamed casual luxury to us. Black and white pieces also took center stage, each unique and distinct in design. There was a sequined black and white maxi dress that we can definitely see a celeb rocking on the red carpet next season.

Libertine
Marking their return to New York Fashion Week since the start of the pandemic, Libertine vibrantly showcased SS24 womenswear and menswear collections at The Gallery at Spring Studios. From the creative design eye of Johnson Hartig’s, the highly anticipated SS24 collection dazzled with Hartig’s latest designs. Hartig drew inspiration from great American sportswear from the 30s to the 70s. This season is dominated by fresh clear colors and a large dose of red, white and blue. Including signature and new eye catching patterns true to Libertine form. Yes, there are hearts on hearts on hearts in pops of red, white and hot pink.
Evaro Italia
Evaro Italia, one of our favorite international high end luxe brands, made their NYFW debut at the Global Fashion Collective Show 3 with an enchanting and eye catching collection that got us very excited for Spring. Design director – Eva Rorandelli – unveiled the Miraggi collection that gave Amalfi Coast vibes mixed in with city sophistication. The textures ranged from soft laces, edgy patent leathers, and crafted sequins eminent of the “Made in Italy” luxury fashion state of mind. Some of of our favorite looks were the lace apple green dress and the burgundy sequined number. Evaro Italia is an Italian luxury women’s wear brand made in Italy and is inspired by the timeless Italian tradition and aesthetic. You can see the entire show here.
KGL
Fashion is for everyone and at the KGL (Kanika Goyal Label) show the designs were gender fluid, Venice beach cool, playful and youthful. Erika matched that energy at the show by sporting an H&M Bubble skirt and white button down, Mango lug soled boots, a bolo tie by Ralph Lauren and cozy knit black sweater. Yup it was raining this day.
The collection included muted pastels, denim textures and see through knits. Bomber jackets will be back next spring in a colorful and bold way. KGL showed us the reinvention of the cool new bombers that will be taking over the streets of both New York and LA.
Dur Doux
The Mother/Daughter design duo from Dur Doux pulled out all the stops for their collection labeled Sous Marine ss24. The inclusive, luxury lifestyle Womenswear brand from creative director and founder Najla Burt brought inspiration from coastal themes into their pieces. Colors like aquamarines, popping pinks and fresh whites took over the runway at BondSt at Hudson Yards. Silhouettes included two piece sets, cutouts on dresses, and lots of printed mesh fabrics. We also loved seeing swimwear incorporated into some of the looks which had us rethinking our outfits for any upcoming vacation. The show stopper for us was a spaghetti strap full volumed dress in bright pink and orange. The runway was hosted by the debut of The Green Show, a groundbreaking annual event dedicated to promoting sustainable fashion and exemplified the transformative power of fashion as a force for positive change.
