8 Fall Fashion Trends We Can’t Wait to Wear

For many of us, summer was a time to put life on hold before the next chapter of college, work, or other new beginnings. As our summer style (& summer self) fades, we’re definitely ready to embrace the cool, sophisticated ways of fall. We couldn’t think of a better time to reinvent ourselves and curate some elevated looks to help us tackle whatever obstacles and opportunities this season has in store. So plan to take some notes babes, because here’s every fall fashion trend we’re expecting to see this season (& what you’ll see us wearing too!).

Curated Capes

We know you’re probably picturing Captain Underpants right now, but trust us, a cape done right looks so high fashion and chic! If you want an understated quiet luxury look, simply pair a cashmere sweater tied around your neck with a silk dress or a t-shirt and jeans. To achieve a classic fall look, pair a plaid mini cape with a matching mini skirt, tights, and knee-high boots. For a high-fashion look, take some inspo from the hottest fall 2024 designers like Chloé. Sydney Sweeney mixed her tan cape with a demure ruffle dress for an epic fall fashion look.

90’s Minimalism

90’s minimalism comes back every fall like your grandma’s classic Thanksgiving pumpkin pie! It’s comforting, familiar, and although expected, it’s always welcome. Luckily, you don’t need to go shopping for this fall fashion trend (unless you want to). Chances are you already have some staples in your closet. The minimalist 90’s vibes are about embracing your natural silhouette and working with the basics you have. Some simple must-have basics include a silk dress, your favorite pair of baggy jeans, the perfect white tee, a leather jacket, and a basic flannel or cashmere to tie around your waist. We love how Bottega Veneta’s Fall/Winter 23 collection did this so effortlessly.

Micro Shorts

Who cares about practicality when you can look this hot! We know it’s ironic to wear shorts in the fall, but the irony makes it camp. If you don’t want to freeze but still participate in the daring look, you can add some tights underneath. Micro-shorts are perfect for fashion girls in LA who usually can’t partake in every cold weather fall trend. Paired with a boho top, sweater, or knee-high boots, micro shorts are the perfect staple piece for an iconic going-out look. We love the vibes of these Miu-Miu plaid shorts on model Millane Friesen.

Countryside Chic

Plaid in fall may seem as groundbreaking as florals in spring, but trust, it’s coming back in an exciting and eclectic way. While Burberry scarfs and trench coats will always be a fall staple, we will be seeing a lot of country-esque plaid flannel in high fashion and on the streets. Brought into fruition from pop culture such as Glen Powell and Daisy Edgar Jones’s new movie, Twister, the countryside aesthetic is taking the world by storm. Some of Daisy’s iconic press looks featured prairie skirts, a plaid blazer with lace-up boots, and a button-down puff sleeve top with a flared midi skirt. While high fashion will make use of eclectic ways to mix and match, we will see country style trickle down into streetwear. Some staples you can expect will include flannel skirts, cowhide, cowboy boots, frilly maxi-skirts, clogs, riding boots, and more.

Gossip Girl Resurgence

LA Girl here – your one and only source into the hottest trends of LA’s elite. Welcome back, Queen Serena. With the 2010 renaissance upon us, it’s no surprise that we are seeing the iconic looks from Gossip Girl everywhere. In contrast to the slick back bun, we’re starting to see some iconic classic SVDW messy, boho hairstyles. TikTok and Pinterest fashionistas have been seen sporting styles like fishtail braids, messy buns, boho braids, and more. You can also expect to see classic Constance ties, sweater vests, loafers, and blazers everywhere this fall. Xoxo – The LA Girl

Eclectic Grandpa

It’s time to get weird! The Eclectic Grandpa style is extremely trendy and for good reason. It’s as free as fashion gets and it’s based on whatever you’re naturally drawn to and have a strange inclination to mix. You really can’t go wrong with any direction or clothing combination! Hit the thrift store and grab some oversized blazers, random eclectic jewelry, cashmere sweaters, vests, and mix and match to your heart’s desire.

Frye Boots

All over TikTok and sold out everywhere, we contemplated gatekeeping this one as we are still on the waitlist for a pair of Frye Campus boots. We usually try to stay away from hyper-specific trending pieces, however, we don’t believe a classic staple that has been prominent for 160 years should become a micro-trend victim. The staple boot has been around forever due to its implacable durability, longevity, and sleek look. Frye boots are guaranteed to be a piece that will be passed down for generations. Adding a pair of Frye boots automatically elevates any look into a laid-back 70’s vibe. Pair them with a mini dress, shorts, or whatever you please. They literally go with everything!

Boho Chic

With the return of Tumblr fashion, it is no surprise that the 2000’s Boho look is coming back and will be a part of fall fashion 2024. Think of the nostalgic carefree outfits you posted in 2014 on Tumblr with a VSCO filter. Based on the latest shows from Chloé, Ralph Lauren, and Isabel Marant, some fall fashion trends we can expect are ruffles, chiffon, knee-high boots, wedge heels, studded belts, and chunky jewelry. If you’re looking for inspo pics, some icons include Serena Vanderwoodsen’s character on Gossip Girl, Marissa Cooper on the OC, Vanessa Hudgens in her Coachella era, and the Olsen twins in 2005! Last Thoughts & The Downfall of the Micro Trend

According to Vogue, trends are expected to become an outlet for creative expression and personal style again after years of extremely short-lived trend cycles. The micro-trend is a short-lived singular item promoted on TikTok that goes from must-have to “cheugy” within weeks. Many influencers and social media users are now allowing their pieces to last a full season as intended and curating a staple closet full of basics and personalized items. TikTok is not real life. No one will throw tomatoes at you like a medieval criminal if you’re caught wearing an item past its “expiration date.” Therefore, you should wear whatever makes you feel like the best version of yourself (take notes from Kylie Jenner’s new style era). Use trends to direct your fashion choices, not dictate them, and have fun this fall in your new looks!
