11 NYFW Trends We’re Obsessing Over

Can ya feel it? Fall is just around the corner and as always to kick it off, New York Fashion Week is the first major event to make it feel like fall. This yeas, NYFW came through and showcased so many transitional and fresh new trends for Spring/Summer 2025. The runways buzzed with stylish and cool designs from top level designers that set the tone for next year’s trends. But as L.A. natives, while our eyes were glued to the runways, our minds were thinking where do we wear these looks? Let’s face it, the real show typically happens often happens off the catwalk. Read on friends to see the style trends from New York Fashion Week so that you can be ahead of the fashion game. Here are 11 trends (11 , because we always need one an extra, lol) straight off the runway at New York Fashion Week.

Preppy & Plaid

School is back in session and the runway taught us how it’s done! Plaid will be creeping its way back for Spring. From fresh hues of blues to neutral browns, plaid makes a statement in that “I mean business” way. Enter Ralph Lauren, who took a chance with matching button ups with wrap skirts, and splashes of denim. We also love the return of shirt dresses. Michael Fausto who’s known fro designing Adele’s gorgeous gowns –  took the shirtdress and turned it into formal wear. His presentation followed the summer of an Italian debutante as she explores “la dolce vita.” Paired with some Badgley Mischka heels, this look is perfect for your next black tie event.

Subtle & Sheer

Sheer is in for spring ladies. Yup it’s about time we show off a little skin. Various designers took this note and ran with it. Khaite  debuted maxi skirts, trousers and elevated cocktail dressed in sheer fabrics. But Michael Kors found a way to take it to the office. His black maxi skirt ensemble is an ideal look to take to late night dinners and networking events, while still exuding sophistication. We’re not saying to wearr this to meet your bae’s family, however, heads will turn if you bring this trend to your next cocktail party or night out with the girlies.

Floral Flush (Beauty)

True New York Fashion Week is all about the clothes, but there are some huge makeup moments worth mentioning that have emerged from the runways. Jason Wu’s spring looks were all about  celebrating the beauty of skin. He kept his models fresh faced and natural as his asymmetrical silky silhouettes walked down the runway. Jason Wu Beauty makeup artists paid  tribute to the origins of makeup, as this collection was heavily inspired by my Taiwanese heritage and Chinese heritage. Designer & founder Jason Wu said “sculpted and bronzed cheekbones were accentuated with hues of bright pink flush and pearlescent highlight, evoking the appearance of the natural pigments that were used throughout time.” We love this trend for Spring 2025.

Layered Skirts

Layered skirts were a standout trend at NYFW! It add dimensions and movement to everyday looks. Throughout 2023 and 2024, we saw the resurgence of midi skirts, denim skirts, and even the return of mini skirts making waves. Now, brands like Tory Burch are taking it up a notch by multiplying these layered designs, creating a bold statement that brings fresh energy to the trend. Whether styled in deep, rich neutrals or given a Cinderella-like flair for spring, this trend strikes the perfect balance between edgy and feminine.

Butter Yellow

We were looking for the color of the spring season, and though ballerina pink tiptoed its way to the runway, another hue slid right in—Butter Yellow. This soft, creamy shade has a subtle, luxurious feel, perfect for those sunny days in L.A. This NYFW solidified its place as a staple. Brands like Tanner Fletcher, 3.1 Phillip Lim, and Simkhai embraced the shade in their collections, each offering a unique spin. 3.1 Phillip Lim added a playful twist with striking yellow appliqués, while Simkhai experimented with fringey fabrics.

Silhouette Swap

A standout trend at New York Fashion Week?  A Silhouette Swap. Styles like the tunic silhouette worn over skirts or pants, for example, is one that all of the girlies will be experimenting with next year. This trend features everything from oversized shirts layered over skirts and pants and even the return of peplums. Brands like Rio and Alaïa showcased this bold silhouette on their runways, proving that bigger can indeed be better. By changing up the traditional silhouette of women’s fashion, this trend embraces a dynamic, more theatrical approach. Expect to see this dramatic style making waves, as it allows for bolder, more creative expressions of personal style this season.

Relaxed Luxury

Those aiming to give off “Old Money Energy” will find comfort in the trend of relaxed luxury. Ralph Lauren, once again, proved they are a brand synonymous with timeless elegance and refined sophistication. His entire Spring/Summer collection channeled a leisurely, high-class vacation vibe, perfect for the affluent family on their summer escape.

Cute Cutouts

Cutouts are another sexy number making waves on our list this season. This trend features carefully placed cutouts that add a playful peekaboo moment. Revealing slivers of hips and shoulders in clever and unexpected ways makes this trend both alluring and fun. Brands like Off-White have embraced this look with strategically placed cutouts showcasing a peekaboo hip, while Allina Liu has followed suit with designs that accentuate the body’s natural curves.

Denim on Denim

In L.A., we love a good street style look, and we can see this one making waves on Fairfax Ave. Next spring, expect all the cool kids to pull up in their denim on denim ensembles. The structural look takes us back to the ‘90s, reminiscent of iconic denim brands like Guess and Levi’s. On the runway, designers like Libertine and L’Agence showcased their takes on the trend, adding modern twists to this classic combo. Though spotted on the runway, outside, fashion influencers were already embracing the trend, sporting denim from head to toe—jeans, skirts, and even purses. Denim on denim is here to stay in L.A., proving that this timeless trend continues to dominate the city’s fashion scene.

Feathered & Fringe

Fringe made an unexpected yet thrilling appearance on the runway this season! Originating from the fringed garments of the roaring ‘20s and later embraced by boho-chic movements, this trend is all about playful movement and texture. It’s no surprise that fringe is making a comeback, especially in L.A., where vibrant, free-spirited style is always in demand. Nanushka added a modern twist to this classic detail by pairing it with workwear while Proenza Schouler transformed it into knitwear.

Chocolate Brown

Last but not least, tones of chocolate brown has made a significant impact on our trend list as fall approaches. But imagine how phenomenal it would be to see this rich, earthy hue on the streets come spring! While many are focused on their floral prints, some designers broke the mold with a grounding shades like root brown and dusty sand. Designers like Michael Kors and Luar have embraced this trend and showed off its versatility and sophistication on the runway. Brown adds a unique, understated elegance to any wardrobe, offering a fresh alternative to traditional spring pastels.
