TRESemmé Brings Style, Movement & Me to NYFW

POV: I’m in the middle of TRESemmé’s styling room for New York Fashion Week and my inner 9 year old self (who was using tiny bottles of TRESemmé hairspray to keep her whispies down) is freaking out inside….. I wouldn’t have believed her if she had told me then,  but I did just that this week, on the top of the 65th floor inside the Rainbow Room, watching TRESemmé’s artists craft perfect pony’s and sleek runway looks for LaQuan Smith‘s Fall 2023 runway.

Cotton candy skies over the New York Skyline set the backdrop for TRESemmé hair artists to do their thing: set this season’s hair trends to accompany spring’s best designers. Little known fact, TRESemmé has been the official hair care sponsor of NYFW for the past 16 years. They’ve been involved in over 100 shows in New York and over 30 shows internationally. This year, they’ve  been spotted backstage styling looks for Christian Siriano, Rodarte, and Simkhai.

Hair can make or break a runway look, so it’s no surprise that products and styles are planned to enhance looks and help tell the story of the fashion pieces being sent down the runway. The stylists at Siriano’s show used a lot of TRESemmé’s Extra Hold products for their tight mid raised & avant-garde ballerina buns. Rodarte’s fashion, fueled by gothic and glamorous dresses, needed hair to be sleek and sophisticated to frame its silhouettes. And over at Simkhai, the free flowing gowns and oversized suits called for a look that was an equal. Designer Jonathan Simkhai actually partnered with TRESemmé’s New Pro Infusion products to create a head to toe fluid look with models rocking natural and free flowing hair.

The Main Event: At the LaQuan Smith runway, slick backed hair and cool satin pony tail’s took over. Wait…time out- let’s chat fashion shall we? LaQuan’s Fall fashion color palette was a mix of  blacks, whites, icy blues, green metallics and this standout color: a deep royal purple. Models like Jourdan Dunn and Frida Assen catwalked in asymmetrical body suits, skirt suits and waistcoat silhouettes. Cut-outs, mesh fabrics, and streamlined mermaid skirts were a highlight of his red carpet gowns. I wouldn’t be surprised if Beyoncé, Rihanna, Kim Kardashian or Dua Lipa (who he’s dressed before) wear these designs in the next few months.

Backstage, I, along with several members of the media, were met with a variety of refreshments including protein bowls and LaQuan Smith approved juices (the green was my favorite) and a first hand look at the models’ hair-styling process. I also got a peek at his designs moments before heading down the runway. To mimic the beauty of so many beautiful fabrics, Head Unilever Stylist & celebrity Hair Artist Lacy Redway wanted LaQuan’s models hair to be a direct mirroring of that. “I drew inspiration from the materials by noticing how the sequin and sating reflected and bounced off the light,” Redway told us backstage. Shiny smooth pony tails were the result of Lacy’s inspo. They were showcased  high shine, elegance, and a dash of modernity.  To achieve this look, stylists used TRESemmé’s One Step Blowout Balm, Mega Control Gel and Keratin Smooth Shine Serum. I wonder if she approved my pony?
