5 Awesome Things to Do in Maui for Couples

Things to Do in Maui for Couples

My husband and I have been to the Big Island and Kauai together, but Maui may be the most romantic island of all. We partnered with Four Seasons Maui at Wailea in Maui and had the most amazing couples getaway!

How to Get there

Maui is just a short six-hour flight from LAX to Kahului and we flew Alaska Airlines for a quick, no-hassle trip. You can also fly out of Burbank airport if that’s more convenient for you.

Where to Stay

We loved our five-star stay at Four Seasons Maui! It’s about a 30-minute drive from the airport to the property. We definitely recommend renting a car especially if you want to drive around the island and visit the national parks.

Once you get to the property, you’ll see why we loved it so much! There are multiple pools including an adults-only infinity pool with a swim-up bar. It’s located right on the beach so you can enjoy meals while hearing the waves crash or watch the sunset. The service was beyond amazing and there’s so many fun things to do on the property.

Where to Eat

Our favorite meals were definitely at the Four Seasons Maui restaurants! Our first dinner at Ferraro’s Bar E Ristorante was definitely an experience. We were seated outdoors with very dim lights that we had to use a light they provided to see the menus. The good news, you can see the stars much clearer in the dark! The meal was amazing and we highly recommend eating here during your stay.

We also enjoyed Duo Steak and Seafood for our breakfasts and dinners. The Keahole Lobster Bisque and the Coconut Seafood Curry were my favorites!

If you’re arriving hungry, head to Tinroof which is near the airport to grab some Hawaiian comfort food. If you’re there around lunch time though, be prepared to wait!

Things to Do

There’s so much to do in Maui and if you’re there as a couple, here are some activities we recommend:

1. Get a couples massage

My husband and I work a lot and when we go on vacation, we love to treat ourselves! At the Four Seasons Maui Spa, we were able to enjoy an oceanside couples massage in a traditional open-air hale (thatched treatment huts) right next to the ocean so we can relax to the sound of the waves.

2. Water activities

There’s no shortage of fun in the water in Maui: snorkeling, kayaking, paddle-boarding. They even have scooter snorkeling!

3. Road to Hana

The perfect day trip (and the reason to rent a car) is to drive the 64-mile road to Hana, a tiny town on the Eastside of Maui. On the way there, you’ll see waterfalls, hikes and magnificent coastlines.

4. Take a hike

By now you must know that we’re hardcore hikers, so of course we had to do a hike in Maui. We didn’t have time to do the full hike up Haleakala, so we did the Pipiwai Trail to Waimoku Falls. It was a beautiful hike with waterfalls, a bamboo forest and it even rained heavily while we were out there – gotta love that island weather!

5. See the sunrise (or sunset) at Haleakala Crater

If you’ve done your research, you’ll know that there’s a reservation system to be able to see the sunrise at Haleakala.  A reservation is required for each vehicle entering the park from 3:00 a.m. to 7:00 a.m. Reservations can be booked up to two months in advance and there’s also a batch of tickets available to reserve two days before arrival, at 7:00 a.m. HST (Hawaii Standard Time).

Unfortunately, we weren’t able to get the tickets since we were on our flight and the next day it was sold out again. So the trick is to either get lucky or go with a tour group that has an allotted number of tickets.

Another way to experience it is to go up for sunset, which we did after the Road to Hana. It was a very long day but it was worth seeing the views.

After three nights in Maui, it was hard to head back home. It’s truly a magical place, one that we can’t wait to visit again!
