From Cinco de Mayo to Memorial Day, it’s clear to see that May is jam-packed with a lot of excitement. Plus, it’s time to officially start getting ready for the summertime. May holds a lot of sensational events – especially for all of the foodies, with tons of upcoming food festivals and the much talked about LA Food Bowl. Here are 16 amazing things to do in LA in May!

LA Food Bowl: May 1 – May 31

May will certainly be an exciting month for every foodie as this whole month will have a grand celebration of food during the LA Food Bowl. The month-long event has a lot of wonderful things planned out – from delicious dining events, panels, and appearances by highly acclaimed and distinguished chefs. Some of the many highlights of the LA Food Bowl include the Night Market, where attendees can enjoy scrumptious foods from the 50 different food vendors at the event in Grand Park, as well as the renowned chef, Wolfgang Puck being awarded with the Los Angeles Times Gold Award during a special dinner at Spago on May 8th, amongst many other spectacular food-inspired events.

Cinco de Mayo: May 5

Cinco de Mayo just so happens to fall on a Friday this year, so needless to say, it will definitely be a fiesta! There are a lot of magnificent things to do in LA to celebrate Cinco de Mayo and one of them being FIGat7th‘s terrific Fiesta at FIG! The event will run from 12 pm to 9 pm and will include margaritas, a pop-up bar, live music from a female mariachi group and a live DJ set, as well as an opportunity to make your own piñata. It will definitely be a fun-filled day for everyone who attends.

LA Taco & Beer Festival: May 6 

To continue off the Cinco de Mayo spirit, the LA Taco & Beer Festival will be making its way to the LA area on Cinco de Mayo weekend. During this mouth-watering event, attendees will be able to have an unlimited amount of taco tasting from various taco restaurants and food trucks that will be present at the festival. Taco lovers will also be able to enjoy some craft beers along with their meal and there will also be games, a DJ, and vendors selling art at the event. The LA Taco & Beer Festival is a 21 and over event.

Foam N’ Glow – “World’s Largest Foam Party:” May 11

Do you love electronic dance music? Are you ready to have one unforgettable night? If you answered “yes” to both of those questions, then the Foam N’ Glow – “World’s Largest Foam Party” is the perfect event for you. Not only will you be able to listen to an awesome set from Australian duo Mashd N Kutcher, but this event is also filled with foam, so it brings all of the fun and excitement to another level. It’s definitely not your average EDM event. Foam N’ Glow will take place at Exchange and is a 21 and over event as well.

Downtown LA Art Walk: May 11

On the second Thursday of every month, the Downtown Los Angeles Art Walk organization holds a wonderful “Art Walk.” This walk is self-guided and takes place from 6 pm – 10 pm. All ages are welcome and it’s a great way for you to enjoy the DTLA scenery and all the art, galleries, and businesses that Downtown Los Angeles has to offer.

LA MoonFest: May 13 – May 14 

If you’re a major Sailor Moon fan, this event is for you! Celebrating 25 years of Sailor Moon, this fun-filled, two-day event will have everyone getting all geared up in their greatest Sailor Moon attire during the event’s costume contest. In addition, there will be a panel with the anime voice actors at the event. The LA MoonFest is bound to be two of the most magical days.

Mother’s Day: May 14

Everyday we always celebrate the great gift we have in our lives – our moms; so why not make Mother’s Day even more special with a fabulous day planned out?! There are a ton of things to do with your mom on Mother’s Day in LA and one terrific idea is to head on over to Esters Wine Shop & Bar. A special wine tasting of wines made by female wine makers will take place from 3 pm – 6 pm.

EEEEEATSCON: May 20

LA is known for being one city with the greatest food, so there are obviously a lot of events throughout the year where #foodies can unite and celebrate their love for food. Another food-inspired event taking place in May is EEEEEATSCON. The event will include previews of foods from favorite restaurants including Sweetfin Poke, Yeastie Boys, Matcha Bar, Shake Shack and more. There will also be music and panels at the event. Punchlines for Paws: May 20 

Who doesn’t love a good comedy show?! Well, what will make this upcoming comedy show at the Candela Taco Bar & Lounge even more special is that the event will benefit Home Dog LA. Punchlines for Paws is a terrific, comedy show presented to help support our furry friends and adorable pets and help low-income residents to keep their pets by their side and in their homes. Fan-favorite and profound comedians including Sarah Silverman, Nick Kroll, Natasha Leggero, and Ahmed Bharoocha will all be taking on the stage and joining in on the fun for this amazing event.

Museums Of The Arroyo Day: May 21

LA offers an endless amount of brilliant and awe-inspiring museums to visit. In fact, on May 21st, six museums in the Los Angeles and Pasadena areas will be opening their doors for free for attendees to enjoy on Museums of the Arroyo Day. These museums include The Gamble House, Heritage Square, the L.A. Police Museum, Lummis Home, Pasadena Museum of History, and The Autry’s Historic Southwest Museum. This free event will take place from noon to 5 pm.

La La Land Concert: May 26 – May 27

City of stars, are you shining just for me? Needless to say, La La Land is one stupendous movie that has captured the hearts of everyone, especially all Los Angelenos. Well, on May 26th and May 27th, La La Land will be making its way to the Hollywood Bowl for two, unforgettable nights. Conducted by composer Justin Hurwitz, you will be left in awe and singing along to every hit song at the La La Land concert. Plus, in celebration of Memorial Day weekend, there will also be a special fireworks presentation at the end.

The Vegan Beer & Food Festival: May 27 

With over 75 restaurants, a vegan marketplace, and tons of drinks, the Vegan Beer & Food Festival is definitely something you would want to mark your calendars down for. This excellent festival is one that can’t be beat and will be taking place at the Rose Bowl in Pasadena.

Fiesta Hermosa: May 27 – May 29

Memorial Day weekend is bound to be extra fun when you celebrate it at Fiesta Hermosa. This event is known for being the “Largest Arts & Crafts Fair in Southern California.” The event is perfect for families – there is food, arts & crafts, live music, and even a Kiddie Carnival with pony rides, face painting and more.

LA Zine Fest: May 28

The LA Zine Fest is a free event taking place at the California Market Center which will showcase over 175 exhibitors of all kinds of printed literature. Memorial Day is one extraordinary day where we honor all of the brave and courageous individuals who have served our country. There are many ways to celebrate Memorial Day and the kickoff of summertime in Los Angeles. Aside from enjoying a nice beach day, there will also be a Memorial Day parade in Canoga Park with floats, music, and more.

Jazz Reggae Festival: May 29
