Just because August signals the home stretch of summer, it doesn’t mean all the fun in the sun has to end! There is still plenty to do and more events with The LA Girl Society coming up, so eat and dance till you reach your heart’s desires! Here are 16 amazing things to do in LA in August 2017!

US Open of Surfing: Aug 1-August 6

Surf’s up! This pro surfing competition attracts the elite, while they compete for big money and wow spectators with their skill and board designs. Festivities include live bands, a sports expo and after-parties!

LA Short Film Festival: Aug 2-Aug 10

Immerse yourself in cinematic art! Watch the premiere of short films, meet the filmmakers, take film courses or even enter the screenplay competition!

 

Raiders of the Lost Ark In Concert: August 4-5

Relive the adventures of Indiana Jones accompanied by live scores while the film is show on the big screen! There will be no snakes, I promise!

Nike Air Society VIP Shopping Event: Aug 8

Join your fellow ladies of  The LA Girl Society at The Grove for a unique Nike Air Society VIP Shopping Event. Featuring light bites, sips, giveaways and exclusive discounts,  this is a free event and everyone is welcome – think of it as a fitness mixer!

The OC Fair: Aug 1- Aug 13

The OC Fair is back this summer! So be sure to bring your friends and family and go on all the stomach churning rides as well as experience all the other festivities. But most importantly, don’t forget to try all the deep fried goodies, yum!! Admission varies from $7-$14.

Twilight Concerts: Aug 1–Aug 17

Each Thursday, Santa Monica Pier hosts live music that’s 100% free. Pack a picnic, arrive early to get a spot on the sand near the speakers and enjoy! It’s a essential L.A. music experience!

Shakespeare By the Sea:  Aug 1–Aug 18

“O Romeo, Romeo, wherefore art thou Romeo?” Catch him at various locations across Los Angeles and Orange County as other timeless tales such as The Taming of the Shrew and Macbeth are performed. Admission is free but they welcome donations. You can also bring your own lawn chairs and blankets as well as outside food and drinks!

Catcon: August 12-13

It’s the age old debate: cats or dogs? If you love felines then this comic-con for cats at the Pasadena Convention Center is the place for you! Tickets range from $15-$100.

Meet your favorite Celebricats like Lil BUB, explore over 100 booths featuring merchandise for cats and their people and other weekend-long activities including Seminars like The Furr-ocious Fashion Face Off and the First Annual CatCon Awards, and a special appearance by Ian Somerhalder of “The Vampire Diaries!”

Echo Park Rising: Aug 17-20

Back for its sixth annual weekend, Echo Park will host a variety of live music, comedy shows, art exhibits and special offerings from local businesses. In the past, there have been tarot card readings, a mani/pedi truck, vintage clothing sales and even a marching band.

Pokemon World Championships: Aug 18- Aug 20

Watch the world’s best players compete in the Pokémon World Championships and shop from vendors at the Anaheim Convention Center. And the best part is that it’s free!

Hot Sauce Expo: Aug 19-Aug 20

Dare to taste fiery samples from hot sauce vendors and  then enjoy a view of the eating competitions at City National Grove of Anaheim!

 

The LA Girl Society Happy Hour Social: Aug 21

Get to know your fellow society members for a fun, social + networking event at The Tuck Room Tavern in Westwood for some drinks and tasty bites. This is a ladies-only event and limited to 21+!  Get your drink on with TWO free happy hour drinks and some starters! The $20 ticket fee will go to a charity!

Moonlight Movies On the Beach: Aug 1- Aug 22

Bring your folding chairs, grab the fam and head to Long Beach! Thanks to Alfredo’s Beach Clubs, you can give your babysitter the night off, and enjoy kid-friendly flicks, like Up and Frozen. Movies are free and there is plenty of free parking as well. Bring your own picnic but dinner and snacks are also available for purchase.

Women’s Self Defense Workshop: Aug 26

Kick some booty at this women’s self defense workshop hosted by Level Up Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu! Learn how to defend yourself from an attacker by using martial arts techniques. Tickets are $25! 50% of the proceeds will go to a charity!

LA Taco Festival: Aug 26

Bring those stretchy pants! It’s free admission and all proceeds go to helping the homeless youth! There’s lots of sunshine and lots of tacos. What are you waiting for?

 Torrance Antique Street Faire: Aug 27

You know what they say, one man’s junk is another man’s treasure! Happy antiquing!

AQUA Sunday Pool Parties: Aug 1-Aug 30

Break out those bikinis, dip your toes in the water and join the party on Sundays at Shade Hotel’s rooftop, Aquadeck! Enjoy hand-crafted cocktails, food specials, breathtaking coastal views & good times with their resident DJ! The charge is $20 and for ages 21+! Dance DTLA: Aug 1-Aug 30

The Music Center offers a free, joyous mashup of music and dancing all summer long, with different themes (90s, line dancing, cumbia, etc.) and free dance lessons plus live bands. Dance Downtown switches off every week with DJ Nights, featuring a late night bar menu and DJs. Head to Grand Park and join in the fun, no dance experience required!
