Everything to Know about LA’s Power Women Summit

Who

You don’t have to use any stretch of the imagination to guess who took the stage and who gathered around it at this year’s 5th Annual Summit: powerful women. The morning opened with Thuso Mbedu’s key note speech, sharing with the audience the continuous loss she experienced through out her life trying to make it as an actor, the set backs she faced and how she overcame them (and who helped her to do it.) Women ranged from Clare Foy to our favorite ladies from The Home Edit, Olympians like Nastia Liukin, C Suite Executives from every major broadcasting hub, White Lotus sensation Sabrina Impacciatore and yours truly, Editor in Chief, Erika De La Cruz. We all gathered to share insight and ideate about topics within & around the landscape of mainstream media.

What

A day to connect! The Power Women Summit is a peer to peer conference with programming tee’d up to “empower.”  The space housed an impressive marketplace of female-owned business. Our LA Girl Picks: A giant coloring wall filled with iconic women & a vintage, luxury resale shop called Shop Risky. My primary career trajectory is in entertainment & personal empowerment mindfulness, so a highlight for me came mid-afternoon during the Mental Health Panel, where conversations included emotional journeys, what mental health means and the recent loss of Stephen Boss”tWitch.” We discussed how these topics impact our community and how we can contribute positive narratives to Mental Health stigmas.

Where

The all-day soiree took place at The Fairmont Miramar- Hotel & Bungalows. The event’s blue carpets were designed with quotes ranging from Beyonce, to Eleanor Roosevelt covering the walls and the scene was set on a timeline that spanned from breakfast to dinner time, with conversations taking place through out the venue. The hotel boasted a coffee-shop hot spot where guests gathered to share lattes and conversation and two floors full of VIP rooms and stages where the guests could gather

Why

Women in media and entertainment have an implicit impact in shaping today’s narratives. They can create change and magnify narratives with their strong voices. This event brought those voices together, to sing in unison and connect with one another on topics that they care most about. Loneliness is a huge factor in mood and mental state, so a community gathering IRL has an impact beyond the conversations, it lasts within its attendees for much more time to come.
