Food + Drink Guide to LA

5 Places to Get the Best Espresso Martini

We’re calling it. The espresso martini might be one of the most perfect drinks to ever exist. The blend of coffee and the spirit of your choosing ( vodka is the most preferred), turns into a rich, delicious, smooth and beautiful cocktail. There’s also just something about sipping on one that makes you look so sophisticated and we love that feeling. So we hunted for the best espresso martinis in LA that are perfect for a girls night deep talk or that first date conversation.

1. Laurel Tavern – Studio City

11938 Ventura Blvd in Studio City

Laurel Tavern was named one of The LA Girl’s Best Bars in the Valley, and their perfectly bold and creamy espresso martinis definitely helped them land that title. The mix of heavy cream with cold brew, Dolce Nero espresso, and vodka is to die for. We dare you to try and look at the photo below without your mouth watering.

2. Tom Tom – West Hollywood

Location: 8932 Santa Monica Blvd in West Hollywood

Tom Tom is known for its Vanderpump Rules fame, but it should also be known for its delicious espresso martinis! Dubbed ‘The Stroke of Midnight,’ Tom Tom’s espresso martini is made with vanilla vodka, Kahlua, cold press espresso, toasted coconut, and chocolate dust. The drink’s name is a nod to the restaurant’s clock decor. One sip, and you’ll fall in love with the rich flavors.

3. Thunderbolt – Echo Park

Location: 1263 W Temple Street in Echo Park.

Thunderbolt’s espresso martini is HIGHLY reviewed – and we’re not surprised by the hype. Once the combination of Counter Culture Coffee, vodka, cacao rum, and Sherry hits your lips, you’ll be hooked. Their bartenders hand-craft each drink with the utmost care to ensure every sip is an incredible experience.

4. The Dresden – Hollywood

Location: 1760 N Vermont Ave in Hollywood

The Dresden Room is an iconic Hollywood destination dating back to 1954. You’ll feel like you’re an old Hollywood starlet with the restaurant’s sophisticated ambiance. Their espresso martini delivers too. Filled to the rim with ingredients like Copalli Rum, St. George Coffee Liqueur, cold brew concentrate, a hint of vanilla, and cacao, their martini is an interesting take on the usual suspects we drink around town. All we have is one word – YUM.

5. Gran Blanco – Venice

Location: 80 Windward Ave in Venice.

If you’re looking for an untraditional, out-of-the-box espresso martini, Gran Blanco has you covered. They use tequila instead of vodka! You’d think it changes the entire taste of the martini, but we think it only elevates it. Nosotros Reposado, espresso, amaro, and cinnamon makes for a sexier twist on an old favorite. And, Gran Blanco’s modern European atmosphere is perfect for a cozy and intimate date night. Cheers bae!

Having a Night In?

Ok as much as we love going out to explore with our boo’s, experimenting and making espresso martinis at home are just as fun. Paul Zahn, our FAV cocktail expert, just sent us some yummy recipes that are easy to make and taste delicious too! You’re welcome!

Cincoro Tequila Espresso Martini

  • 2 oz Cincoro Reposado Tequila
  • 1 shot espresso, freshly pulled and slightly cooled
  • .75 oz Mr. Black Coffee Liqueur
  • Dash of agave

Combine all ingredients into a shaker, add ice and shake vigorously until very cold. Double strain into chilled cocktail glass. And don’t forget to add 3 Coffee Beans as a garnish!

Carajillo Twist

  • 1.5oz Cincoro Reposado
  • 1 oz Licor 43
  • 0.25 oz Spiced Syrup
  • 2 dashes of Orange bitters
  • 1.5oz Espresso

After adding all ingredients fill tin to the top with ice and shake it like your life depends on it. Pour over large cube in rocks glass and place a Lemon Pistachio Cannoli (Yum!) over the rim as a fruity snack with your drink. If you want to go the simple route with your Carajillo ( btw, they’re great after your meal and an best alternative to ordering desert), just grab… 2 oz. Licor 43 & 2 oz. Espresso, shake ingredients over ice. Pour over fresh ice, and keep it simple by garnishing with three espresso beans.

Chocolate Espresso Martini

  • 2 ounces Mozart Chocolate Coffee Liqueur
  • 2 ounces vodka
  • 1 ounce espresso
  • 1/2 oz cream

In an iced mixing tin, combine ingredients. Shake and strain into martini glass. We love to top it off with Chocolate-covered espresso beans for that extra flare of chocolate.
