5 Hollywood “Diva” Rules To Crush Your New Year Goals

Setting goals for the New Year is one thing, but sticking to them for the whole year? That’s a whole other ball game. Lucky for us, Hollywood has supplied us with plenty of barrier-breaking legends to serve as our guiding light. From unforgettable TV icons to Grammy winning skin-care entrepreneurs, each of these 5 women impart to us plenty of motivational wisdom on reaching your goals. Whether it’s saving a certain amount of money or reaching a new fitness record, use these 5 Hollywood “Diva” rules to crush your new year goals.

1. Get Obsessed With Yourself

The Queen of Euphoria Miss Maddy Perez left us breathless with her inspiring confidence. For the new year, it’s crucial that we take some notes. According to Rue’s POV in Euphoria, Maddy “just knew she had something special, something intangible. She didn’t have to be the prettiest, the blonde, the tallest, or the whitest. [She] just had to have f****** confidence.” In other words, do it on purpose. Find your “why”, then trust your abilities and your plan. If you have to, fake it ‘til you make it. As Maddy says herself: “90% of life is confidence, and the thing about confidence is that no one knows if it’s real or not.” With self-confidence, you develop a tunnel vision for what truly matters regardless of anyone’s opinion.

2. Don’t Be Afraid To Know What You Want

From late night studio sessions to grueling world press tours, pop-star sensation Ariana Grande is no stranger to hard work. But while the ponytail queen’s tenacious work ethic has garnered praise from A-listers like Big Sean and Cynthia Erivo, it has also earned her the inevitable Hollywood “diva” label. “Price Tag” singer Jessie J shut down those accusations, professing that “she’s super talented, she’s very young, and she’s very sure of what she wants.” Just like Ariana, say your official “GOODBYE” to people pleasing! Realize that it’s a blessing and an underrated skill to know exactly what you want and where you want to be. So get specific with your goals, and be unapologetic about going after them.

3. Be Delusional

In a 2009 interview with Fuse, Lady Gaga revealed that lying to herself helped her reach her career goals. Everyday, she repeated a daily mantra to herself: “Music is my life. The fame is inside of me. I’m going to make a number-one record with number-one hits.” In today’s spiritual climate, Lady Gaga’s habits are known as manifestation affirmations. Ask yourself, how would you feel if you already accomplished your goal? Then whatever your answer is, bask in those emotions and face your limiting beliefs. Never underestimate the power of visualization.

4. You Are Limitless

After winning 9 awards from MTV, AMA’s and The Grammys, Rihanna launched her billion dollar makeup and skincare line Fenty Beauty which was followed by her Savage x Fenty lingerie line a year later. “I love challenges, so I’m going to continue to have fun and push the boundaries in this industry,” she says in an interview with Time Magazine. Rather than letting her musical background define herself, Rihanna wanted to see what else she could do! She led with her passion into the unknown instead of taking comfort in the familiar. What feels unattainable or downright ridiculous is exactly where the growth happens.

5. Have Fun!

The beautiful, multi-talented, three-time Grammy winner Lizzo has ripped Hollywood beauty standards to shreds. Someone this iconic definitely has had their fair share of haters, but to Lizzo, it’s all jokes and even compliments. “Dudes be ugly w no b****** talking bout ‘oK LiZzO’ as an insult in girls’ comments…,” was Lizzo’s clapback to internet trolls. Rapper Kanye West also hopped on the hater bandwagon declaring she is “clinically unhealthy” to which Lizzo responded, “I’m minding my fat, Black, beautiful business”. But, while Lizzo has fun shutting down her haters, she’s still wise enough to know they never deserve a reaction. In her VMAs speech, Lizzo held up her gleaming trophy and claimed she doesn’t have to address her haters because she’s already winning. Like a true queen, Lizzo understands that good and bad are a packaged deal. Expecting challenges is key, but Lizzo reminds us that the true secret is having a sense of humor.
