11 Things To Do in LA This August

Mid Summer is here, and as usual, there are a ton of awesome events to check out all month long in the beautiful city of LA. Whether it’s a vegan festival, a sunset concert. or a delicious taco festival you’re sure to have an amazing time at one of these events. We’ve got 11 things to do in LA this August and we’re stoked to share.

The weather is heating up like crazy, so make sure to sunscreen it up, stay hydrated and take care of yourself!

Ok, let’s get it going. Here are 11 things to do in LA this August!

Long Beach Vegan Festival

August 3rd

Whether you are vegan or not, you can still check out the Long Beach Vegan Festival on the lawn at The Pike Outlets. There will be “earth friendly” vendors, live music, art installations, and plenty of food with no meat or animal products! 

Midsummer Scream

August 3rd – 4th

A horror festival? Why not! Midsummer Scream will have workshops, panel discussions, and the BEST part, previews of haunted attractions. Considering it’s known as the “Horror and Haunt Convention,” there will be a few scares from wandering actors at the festival, which is happening at the Long Beach Convention & Entertainment Center.

Sunset Concerts

August 8th – 22nd

Every Thursday at 8:00pm, there will be free concerts at the Skirball Cultural Center in Bel Air. Admission is free, parking is $10, and arrive early to see the sunset on this beautiful hillside! 

Frankenstein

August 11th – September 8th

You may have read Frankenstein in school, but not this version. Nick Dear wrote this version of Frankenstein from the perspective of the Creature. Dr. Victor Frankenstein created him by piecing together different body parts, and then the story continues… You can watch this version of the story come to life in theatre form at A Noise Within

Echo Park Rising

August 15th – 18th

This music festival can be fun for the whole family because it’s all ages and it’s free! There are multiple stages to watch the artists, activities, and food trucks. Echo Park Rising will be along the following streets: Sunset Blvd, Glendale Blvd, Alvarado Avenue, and Echo Park Avenue.

LA Taco Festival

August 17th

No need to wait for Taco Tuesday to get your delicious savory treats, because at the LA Taco Festival in DTLA, you’ll have plenty of taco options. Entry is free into the festival, just don’t forget to bring cash so you can try tacos from the 30 vendors that will be onsite in Grand Park!

Reptile Super Show

August 10th – 11th

Experience hundreds of vendors with unique and rare animals at the Reptile Super Show at the Fairplex in Pomona. There will be lizards, frogs, turtles, snakes, geckos and many other exotic reptiles at the show with educational tables as well.

Twilight On The Pier

August 21 – September 25th

Summer nights in Santa Monica are already quite picturesque and fun as is, but they are kicked up a notch with Twilight on the Pier! Live music on three stages, delectable food options, immersive art, a beer and spirits garden, games, and more! All you have to do is show up at the Santa Monica Pier on Wednesday nights between 7:00pm and 10:00pm. No ticket or reservation needed because it’s free! 

D23 Expo

August 23rd – 25th

If you love all things Disney, you can’t miss the D23 Expo at the Anaheim Convention Center! There will be previews of upcoming movies, performances, panel discussions with Disney creators and celebrity speakers, and more from Disney, Pixar, Marvel, and Star Wars!

Free National Park Day

August 25th

Take a hike or a bike ride on Free National Park Day! Admission is free at parks across the nation including Joshua Tree, Yosemite, Death Valley, Sequoia & Kings Canyon to name a few. Be sure to arrive early because parking may be more scarce than usual.

Long Beach Comic Con

August 31st – September 1st

Long Beach Comic Con will be showcasing the work of artists, illustrators, writers, as well as panels with celebrity guests! All the comics and pop culture you can imagine will fill the Long Beach Convention & Entertainment Center for that weekend.
